| Ponsonby is a gorgeous old suburb of Auckland
city. It is built on a ridge above the central business district
and the Waitemata Harbour. Ponsonby has a wonderful feel to it.
It’s edgy and cosmopolitan but this vibrancy manages to
sit perfectly alongside its history and the beautiful old wooden
homes with their climbing roses and wisteria. Ponsonby attracts
‘difference’ whether it be culturally, in the arts,
its shops or the myriad of ethnic cafes and restaurants. It is
one of Auckland’s favourite locations for eating out. It’s
a fun, safe place.
An added bonus is that Auckland’s oldest park is situated
right on the back boundary of 23 Hepburn - see photograph above.
The trees are old and gnarled and the walking tracks through the
park are well kept. It’s a great spot for an early morning
or evening stroll or a picnic lunch. Great too for guests who
love jogging.
Other information which maybe helpful:
How far is 23 Hepburn from the airport and how
do we get there?
We are approximately 35 minutes from Auckland Airport.
By Taxi: A normal metered taxi, from the Airport to 23 Hepburn, can cost up to $95 depending on traffic. However, I have a flat fare arrangement with President Taxis who will charge a flat fare of just $59 if paid in cash or $61 if paid by credit card. You can book them by emailing them at p1@xtra.co.nz giving details of your flight number and the expected flight arrival time. The driver will meet you in the Arrival Hall with your name on a signboard. Remember to let them know you are booking the flat fare and request a business class taxi. President Taxis also have taxi vans which are the same price - $59 or $61. I suggest you request a van if there are more than two passengers with lots of luggage.
By Shuttle Bus: At the international airport
turn left in the Arrival Hall and you will see the Visitors Information
Centre. The staff will book you on the Supershuttle or you can
book yourself using Supershuttle’s freephone situated at
the Information Centre. You can also prebook on their website
www.supershuttle.co.nz
or phone 0064 9 522 5100 (within NZ 09 522 5100). The cost is
$33 for 1 person, $40 for 2 or $47 for 3 to the door of 23 Hepburn.
The catch is that it could take you up to one hour to arrive at
23 Hepburn as they drop other passengers on their way.
By car:
If you are driving yourself:
- As you leave the airport, follow the signs to Auckland or
City Centre
- Exit the first motorway at Queenstown Rd – clearly
sign posted
- Follow all signs to Auckland or City Centre or North through
suburban streets
- At Gillies Avenue hop onto the southern motorway –
again clearly signposted
- Pass exits to Khyber Pass, Wellesley St, Port and Waitakere/Helensville
- Take the next exit at Nelson St (last exit before the Harbour
Bridge)
- Turn left at 1st set of lights
- Turn left again at next set of lights into Wellington St
(ensure you stay in left lane or you will be back on the motorway)
- Turn left at 1st set of lights into Hepburn Street
- Come up Hepburn Street to 23 Hepburn and your waiting room
How far is 23 Hepburn from the City?
We are a 5 minute taxi ride from the city – $10-$13. It’s
a brisk 20 minute walk if you prefer. The Link Bus on Ponsonby
Rd, 2 minutes walk away, will take you into the city for $1.60.
It runs every 10 minutes.

U-Save is a New
Zealand family owned rental company who have consistently
given excellent service to guests. They are smaller than many
of the large companies - Hertz, Avis etc - and their prices
are often lower than these bigger companies. They will also,
free of charge, come to collect you from 23 Hepburn and take
you to their depot in the city to complete the paperwork and
pick up your car. The only issue is that you have to return
your car either to Auckland Airport, Auckland City, Palmerston
North, Christchurch or Dunedin. |
